Valentine’s dates dine in the dark for a cause

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – This Valentine’s Day, some diners are choosing to eat with a blindfold, for a sensory experience and for a good cause.

“It’s dining in the dark so, so people can have the experience where other people can learn what those of us who are visually impaired have to deal with all of the time,” said Tom Frank of Milton.

Frank is one of those visually impaired people, but having trouble seeing doesn’t stop him from having a good time.

“When we can get out and enjoy ourselves it’s important,” said Frank.

Frank was out on the town enjoying himself Friday evening, on a date with his wife Janet Dooley. They met on eHarmony 20 years ago.

“I said I come as a package. Two dogs and four kids, so it was a package deal,” said Dooley.

“You just know that you know,” said Frank.

The couple dined by dim candle lights, surrounded by others who chose to wear blind-folds and partake in a prix-fixe meal to benefit the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. While everyone enjoyed their food, Frank and Dooley doled some advice on how to make true love last.

“She deals with me all of the time and I think it’s difficult,” said Frank.

“Communication’s the key, if you don’t communicate, you lose it,” said Dooley.

We all exist with different abilities, and we all bring something different to the table. It’s what makes us different that makes us special, and love continues to have no bounds.
