PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is expected to get a new title soon. Her nomination to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations is out of committee and headed for a full Senate vote, where she’s likely to win confirmation.
That will leave open her House seat representing the 21st Congressional District.
The list of potential candidates is already long, especially on the Republican side.
And in New York, you don’t have to live in the district you’re running in.
“Chances are you may end up with a candidate who may be from the Albany area or that ends of being in the nominee,” said Thom Hallock, a longtime journalist, political expert and Mountain Lake PBS anchor.
