MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – With the legislative session now in its 2nd week the majority party is detailing its plan for another hot-button issue.
Vermont House Democrats are gathering walking the tightrope of cutting spending and supporting education.
Lawmakers will detail how to make public education stronger and how Vermonter is going to pay for it.
In a statement, the Democratic chair of the education committee said Democrats agree with what Governor Scott said at his inaugural address: more money doesn’t fix the problem.
He said that the state is spending $2.3 billion to educate 83,000 students but assessment results haven’t matched the investment.
Their goal is to create a high-quality public education system that is sustainable for Vermont.
That meeting is at 12:30 Tuesday afternoon at the statehouse.
