SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Shoppers were out in our region hoping to score some deals on this Black Friday.
The National Retail Federation expects consumers to break spending records this year, potentially spending up to $990 billion on holiday shopping, with Black Friday making up a significant chunk of those sales.
One group of holiday shoppers got up bright and early to check out the deals at the mall in South Burlington but said they were disappointed by the lack of good discounts at stores.
“You can find what you’re looking for online now. We’re here for the experience of it. We’re young still. My grandmother always had a good time with Black Friday shopping. ‘It’s always how much you save,’ she’d say. But all of it’s online now,” said Brody Hammond of Milton.
Experts say Black Friday shopping habits have changed in recent years, with more people doing their shopping online and stores offering discounts earlier.
If you’re still looking to check off your holiday shopping list, you can support local businesses on Small Business Saturday or wait until Cyber Monday for more deals from big-box retailers.
