BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – If you’re heading out with the kids for some trick-or-treating, local firefighters have some safety tips.
Parents should provide their children — and others — with flashlights.
Also, when walking on the roads, make sure costumes don’t have long trailing fabric. And, keep all decorations away from open flames and other heat sources like light bulbs, heaters, and jack-o-lanterns.
“From 2018 to 2022 there was an average of 835 structure fires in residential homes annually. We see lots of dried flowers, cornstalks, craypaper. You know, those things are stuff that catch on fire very easily,” said Bristol Fire Chief Brett LaRose.
