LYME, N.H. (WCAX) – The end is in sight for a bridge project over the Connecticut River that has caused significant detours in the Upper Valley for the last 18 months.
The bridge connecting Thetford and Lyme, New Hampshire, has been on New Hampshire’s list of “red-listed” bridges for years. It was finally closed last April for needed structural and cosmetic repairs.
Crews are almost done with the work and now a reopening date has been set for November 15th, about three weeks later than originally planned.
“Once we took the existing concrete deck off and then they blasted for the painting is when we found significantly more repairs that we had to make and thus is actually related to the time extension,” said (Chuck Flanders with the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
The bridge rehab cost $11 million and federal funds are paying for the majority.
The detour between the two communities takes people north through Orford or south through Hanover.
