Lawmakers return to statehouse ahead of veto session

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Lawmakers are back in the statehouse on Monday as the General Assembly reconvenes this morning for a veto session to challenge 7 of Governor Phil Scott’s vetoes.

7 bills got the Governor’s red pen, ranging from so-called safe injection sites in Burlington to Act 250 reform for Vermonters across the state.

On Thursday, Scott vetoed lawmakers latest version of Act 250, creating a multi-tiered system for areas of the state where Act 250 would allow projects to build more in developed areas with existing water and sewer infrastructure.

Other bills up for a challenge include H. 706 which would ban the use of crops treated with neonicotinoid pesticides and H. 289 regarding Vermont’s renewable energy standard.

A two-thirds supermajority is required to override the Governors’ veto.
