BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A local Vermont artist partnered with an organization who creates cross country mural projects to help them spread the word about more affordable healthcare through price transparency. The artist painted the mural on 197 North Winooski Ave. in Burlington.
The movement is called ‘Power to the Patients’ with artwork created by American contemporary artist Shepard Fairey.
The mural represents solidarity towards price transparency, and more affordable and accessible healthcare across the country.
The organization says more than 100 million Americans are in medical debt, and many Americans decide to not get care simply because they’re afraid of exorbitant medical bills when they can’t see real prices upfront.
The murals span forty seven different communities in places like New York City, LA and Orlando.
Local artist Mary Lacy says she joined the cause because she wanted to advocate for those struggling in her community.
“I mean I make a lot of my own personal artwork about health, and the body. So we did not realize it when Power of the Patients reached out to me. How aligned we were,” Vermont Muralist Mary Lacy said.
