ST. ALBANS, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont’s Emergency Medical Services chief is on leave from her post after officials say she responded to an emergency call as a paramedic while impaired.

Bambi Dame works as the emergency medical services chief for the Vermont Department of Health, and separate from that job, she is also a paramedic.

Officials with the Health Department say Dame arrived at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans last Friday as a paramedic to transport a patient to the UVM Medical Center. They say hospital staffers reported signs of impairment, and Dame was determined unfit to perform her duties.

Officials say Dame did not engage with patients or drive the ambulance.

Dame is currently on leave from her position as EMS chief. Her state EMS license and privilege to practice were also suspended.

Health Department officials say during the ambulance call, Dame was working as a paramedic with Fairfax Rescue. She was off the clock and not working as a state employee at that time.
