WATERBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – It’s time to pull out the sunglasses because it is the first time in about 70 days that Vermonters are seeing some sunshine.

“Oh my God, literally finally,” Randolph resident Sinead Garvey said, “I actually got out of doing homework, just whole different vibes, I just feel everyone is a lot happier and looking forward to the spring,” Garvey said.

That was most people’s reaction to when they woke and saw the sun blazing on Sunday.

“It makes me feel like continuing to live,” Duxbury resident Lars Dickson said.

“Everyone seems to be happier,” Duxbury resident Patty Delaney said.

Some people are even bringing out traditional summer gear.

“I am happy it’s nice to have to put sunglasses on my drive down,” Burlington resident Clara Kelly said.

“I love it so much, it’s really good to feel alive, the sun gives me energy. I feel like a little lizard, I need to go sunbathe,” Waterbury resident Nadaly Jones said, “It’s just, it’s nice, it’s refreshing. It gives me hope for spring. Groundhog Phil came out early and said spring was coming and so I’m really trying to believe him.”

Car washes were packed as people rinsed off the season’s snow, mud, and dirt. People say they are feeling hopeful.

“I’m ready for spring to come. It’s pretty awesome especially since there hasn’t been snow on the ground, so no sun has been reflecting up at us either, so it’s nice to get some sun,” Kelly said.

It was a nice change for Burlington resident Jackie Mauro, who says she was relieved for no snow or rain.

“It’s been super gloomy lately, and it’s just really refreshing to wake up to the sun…it’s very happy like that first warm day of the year is always really exciting and I feel like this is very similar,” she said.

Others are taking advantage of what the Green Mountain state has to offer.

“I just think it makes everything look brilliant, the snow on the hills and mountaintops just make it outstanding, it’s uplifting,” Delaney said.

Instead of staying indoors, people are hitting the outdoors.
