BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Authorities are investigating reports of attempted child abductions in Burlington.
In a note to community members Tuesday, Burlington School District officials say they are looking into two incidents of adults approaching children on their way to and from school.
They say three students were approached at a school bus stop Tuesday morning near Edmunds Middle School by a man who offered money to come with him. The students ran into the school and reported the incident. The suspect was described as a tall, white man in a hoodie with a scar under his eye.
Officials say on Monday two students from Hunt Middle School were offered a ride downtown by two men in a black compact car. The students again left the area and reported the incident.
Burlington Superintendent Tom Flanagan says the district is working with the Burlington Police. He urged parents to talk with their students and develop a plan about what to do if they experience a similar situation. He says that plan should include — getting away from the situation to a safe place, hiding if necessary, and reporting the incident.
The incidents this week come after a similar report last June was later found to be fabricated.
