5-Town Food Drive

5-townfooddrive

On Saturday, October 19 … It’s the The 5-Town Food Drive.  The fire departments of Bristol, Lincoln, Monkton, New Haven and Starksboro, will open their doors for the purpose of collecting non-perishable goods for the Have-A-Heart Food Shelf.

We’ll be broadcasting live at the Bristol Firehouse from 10 to 1, hoping you can stop by and help us pack the Firehouse, but you can also donate at any of the 5-Town fire departments.

All the non-perishable food and monetary donations will go to the Have-A-Heart Food Shelf, which distributes food and assistance to our neighbors in each of the 5-Town Area throughout the year.

Here’s a list of common items to consider donating:

  • Canned vegetables: Items like canned green beans, corn, peas, and carrots are nutritious and versatile.
  • Canned fruits: Donate canned fruits such as peaches, pears, pineapples, or fruit cocktail in their juices or light syrup.
  • Canned soups and stews: These provide a warm and filling meal option.
  • Canned proteins: Tuna, chicken, salmon, and other canned meats are excellent sources of protein.
  • Peanut butter: It’s a great source of protein and a staple for many households.
  • Canned or dried beans: Items like canned black beans, kidney beans, or bags of dried beans are rich in protein and fiber.
  • Rice: White or brown rice is a versatile and filling food item.
  • Pasta and pasta sauce: Both are easy to prepare and can be a full meal when combined.
  • Cereal: Provide nutritious and easy-to-prepare breakfast options like oatmeal or whole-grain cereal.
  • Oatmeal: It’s a healthy and hearty breakfast option.
  • Cooking oil: Vegetable oil or olive oil can help families prepare meals.
  • Baby food and formula: For families with infants, these items are crucial.
  • Snacks: Consider items like granola bars, crackers, or trail mix for quick energy.
  • Spices and condiments: Items like salt, pepper, ketchup, and mustard can enhance the flavor of meals.
  • Hygiene products: Some food drives may also accept non-food items like soap, toothpaste, and shampoo.
  • Diapers and baby supplies: If the food drive is collecting these items, they are highly valuable for families with infants.
  • Pet food: If the food drive is supporting families with pets, consider donating dog or cat food.
  • Gluten-free or allergen-specific items: If you know there’s a need for specific dietary restrictions, consider items tailored to those needs.
