Two Historic Sites Honor the Legacy of Frederick Douglass

11 am — Union Meeting Hall: Frederick Douglass Morning Reflection
Join the Friends of Union Meeting Hall and Rokeby Museum for a family-friendly morning reflection about the legacy of Frederick Douglass and his historic visit to Ferrisburgh in 1843. Rokeby staff will lead a history talk and community reflection activity on the site where Douglass spoke. The Friends of UMH will speak about the legacy of the two town buildings, and the Hall will be open for touring.

1 pm — Rokeby Museum: Reading Frederick Douglass
Gather at Rokeby Museum for the annual public reading of “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July,” delivered by Douglass in 1852. Rokeby Museum will provide sections of the speech, and community members are asked to join the reading. No pre-registration is required. Admission to the museum is free after 1 PM.
