BURKE, Vt. (WCAX) – Residents in the town of Burke can expect to see a new town garage in the near future.
The 2.9 million dollar garage was approved by voters on Town Meeting Day.
The bond will take about 30 years to pay off, but officials had already started saving for the new structure a couple years ago.
The town says the current garage is too old, and they say it is a safety hazard to the public works crew.
The new building is expected to surpass 50 years of use and will have much more room for equipment, sand and salt.
“We wanted to get a bond vote yes. We felt that if we went over three million there was probably a good chance that people would think it was a little extravagant. We did the best we could. I think the garage is going to look great. Its going to service us,” Jim Sullivan, the Burke Town Administrator said.
The new garage will be placed on Rte. 5 in West Burke.
