Make-A-Wish Vermont opens new Wish Discovery Theater

SHELBURNE, Vt. (WCAX) – A new space has opened that will help kids experiencing life-threatening illnesses brainstorm their biggest wish.

Make-A-Wish of Vermont and Northeast New York recently unveiled a new Wish Discovery Theater at their Vermont headquarters in Shelburne. The space features comfy bean bags and a 180 degree immersive screen.

The theater is the first stop Make-A-Wish kids make when they arrive. There, they’ll watch a short animated movie called “Wishes Are Medicine,” based on the experiences of a local wish child. The goal is to help kids start thinking about what they might want their wish to be.

“We really need to energize our kids and inspire them to keep on fighting and push through some really challenging medical experiences, so when they have a place like this to start their journey, it really uplifts them and lets them know they are not alone,” Emily Malley, the director of communications for Make-A-Wish of Vermont and Northeast New York, said.

The space was made possible through a $125,000 donation from the Vermont Construction Company, which spent the last nine months building out the space.

Make-A-Wish Vermont typically grants between 40 and 50 wishes a year.
