Rockwell Kent Gallery reopens after renovations

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – SUNY Plattsburgh’s iconic art gallery is once again open to the public.

Rockwell Kent, a famous North Country painter, donated his works to the college.

Tonya Cribb, the director of the Plattsburgh State Art Museum, says renovations include covering the gallery’s skylight to prevent UV damage to the paintings, and Mountain Lake PBS’ mobile learning lab, where kids can use Kent’s paintings of the North Country to learn about science and climate change.

“This is such a prestigious collection. We are so very fortunate to have this artwork serve as a first-person resource for our students and our faculty,” Cribb said.

The learning lab was funded by the Lake Placid Education Foundation.
