FAYSTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Love got a lift this Valentine’s Day as skiers were paired up on the slopes at Mad River Glen.
People in search of a connection came out to share a chair and see if they clicked.
“Ideally, you know, I’m looking for somebody who likes to ski maybe as much as me, hopefully. So, yeah, it’s a good way to meet people that are doing the same thing,” Kristine Keeney said.
Singles were paired up at the base and headed up the Sunnyside double chairlift which takes about 10 minutes from bottom to top.
“I think this is my third run? It’s been unbelievable,” Aaron Gaines said.
If the date got icy, couples could split at the chair’s mid-station and ski back down to the base to try again with someone new. But if things warmed up, they could go all the way to the top and ski back down together.
Staffers said before the pandemic, they had a kissing booth on Valentine’s Day, but since COVID, they wanted to find a new way to give love an edge.
“We really just wanted to see how things went, take some notes and build on the experience of our first year. But out of the gate, we’ve got over 60 people signed up for this. There’s great enthusiasm for it,” said Ry Young, the marketing and events manager at Mad River Glen.
For many of the singles, finding love has been an uphill battle.
“I’m really disenchanted with dating apps, it’s hard to meet people in normal so an arranged thing where everyone there is single and ready to meet people, and we’re skiing, it’s really fun,” Heather Mooney said.
A Valentine’s Day they’ll “chair-ish” forever.
“I hope they do it every year,” Killian Leese said. “This is really cool.”
