CHAZY, N.Y. (WCAX) – People puckered up for a good cause on Friday at the United Way of the Adirondack Region’s “Kiss the Cow” event at the Miner Institute in Chazy.
This year, they hoped to raise $10,000 for homelessness prevention.
Preliminary findings from Clinton County’s Point in Time Count show an uptick in the area’s homeless population.
Christine Peters, the commissioner of the Clinton County Department of Social Services, says money from organizations like the United Way helps fill the gaps.
“We have a small pot of money for eviction or for moving or for furnace repair maybe they are not eligible. So, money like this helps us contact the United Way and meet unmet needs we can not do under our regulations,” Peters said.
Friday also capped the United Way’s yearly campaign which generated roughly $680,000
