Burlington Firefighters respond to UVM dorm fire

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Some UVM students have been displaced after a dorm building caught fire on Friday.

The Burlington Police Department says it happened on the third floor of Jeanne Mance Hall at around 2:45 p.m.

First responders say they found a battery-powered skateboard ignited and set off the sprinkler system. Everyone was evaluated, and the sprinklers put out the fire.

No one was hurt, but the students living there had to stay somewhere else because of the smoke and water damage.

Firefighters are warning about devices with lithium-ion batteries, saying to make sure to always use the manufacturer’s batteries and charging cables, and never leave charging items unattended.
