UVM students remember those lost in Holocaust

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – UVM students at the Hillel chapter are finding ways to remember the lost lives of the Holocaust.

It is the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz where more than a million people – mostly Jews – were killed by Nazis.

Students on campus gathered at the chapter lighting candles, eating food, and arranging flowers.

Students tell us — if you light a candle in remembrance — don’t blow it out, let it burn out on its own.

“I think students need a community now more than ever. Particularly on this day when we don’t have to look too far back in our recent history. To be able to see our families affected. The world changed had changed through what had happened with the holocaust,” said Matt Vogel, Hillel executive director.
