CONCORD, N.H. (WCAX) – New Hampshire authorities are warning residents about a lottery and sweepstakes scam that often targets seniors.
The state attorney general says the scammers contact the victims and falsely claim that they have won a lottery or sweepstakes and that in order to claim their ‘prize’ they must pay certain fees up front, either through a wire transfer, bitcoin, or a prepaid gift or debit card. The AG warns that any legitimate sweepstakes or lottery will not ask for an upfront payment.
They add to never give out any personal information.
