People march in Burlington ahead of Presidential Inauguration

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Dozens of people marched on Church Street Saturday to stand up for women’s rights.

“I think it is normal to have those fears. But as we stand collected and united. I think we are capable of getting through this together,” said Sheldon Resident Felicia Bosley.

Bosley has been going to women’s rallies and marching for women’s equality since she was very young. But now that former president Donald Trump is taking office again in just a few days, she felt the need to gather with her community, to share concerns for her fellow women.

“I have concerns that we will become commodities, and not be seen as people. I have concerns about my access to healthcare and my access to birth control. I am concerned about our future children as well,” explained Bosley.

Various community members gathered to march in solidarity in Burlington. Shouting for the protection of constitutional freedoms like women’s health care, LGBTQ and Immigrant rights for all people living and working in the state.

The marches happen nationwide. The first one started on January 21, 2017 on the eve of the first inauguration of Donald Trump.

On Saturday, people stood outside in the cold, chanting and waving their posters.

Many say they want a better future for their daughters.

“I am concerned about not only myself and my daughters, but my grandchildren. I want a future for them that feels good. You know, where people and the planet are respected more than profit,” said Charlotte resident Toni Sunderland.

Some are worried about how the current state of the country could change in the coming weeks.

“I think Vermont, we are living in a bit of a bubble here, that our rights are mostly still protected. But in a lot of other states, not just the rights for your medical choices, but just where is it going to stop?” said Middlebury Resident Elisabeth Vanduyne.
