HINESBURG, Vt. (WCAX) – The Hinesburg Fire Department says a house was significantly damaged in an overnight chimney fire.
Just before 11 on Thursday night, the Hinesburg Fire Department responded to a home off of Coyote Ridge Road for a reported chimney fire. The homeowner said there was smoke filling the home.
Firefighters say they discovered hidden fire in the walls and attic that they were able to extinguish.
They say that due to the icy driveway, one of the fire trucks almost slid off the road. All responders besides those in first truck to arrive had to walk over a quarter of a mile with full protective gear and equipment to reach the scene.
The Hinesburg Highway Department aided in firefighter safety by plowing and sanding twice throughout the night.
There were no injuries.
While the fire is believed to be accidental, the State Police Fire and Explosion Unit and the Division of Fire Safety were contacted to provide a fire investigation.
