BRANDON, Vt. (WCAX) – After months of searching, the Rutland County Humane Society says they’ve secured an agreement to acquire part of the former Brandon Training School.
Officials say they plan to refurbish the historic building off Jones Drive in Brandon. It comes after having outgrown their current home in Pittsford, which opened in 1967.
“This building is very old, which is challenging for sanitation, space. We don’t have an isolation area for dogs that come in,” said the society’s Jennifer Perrigo. “It’s exciting to look in and kind of look in and see it as an empty shell and envision what it will look like.”
She says they should be up in running in the new location in three to five years and provide services in the new space for the next 50 years.
