Sustainability educator has big dreams for former VCFA campus in Montpelier

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – There are big plans afoot on College Hill in Montpelier.

The Central Vermont Economic Development Corporation recently came out with its list of priority projects for 2025, and sitting at the top of the list is a new educational facility at the former College of Fine Arts property in Montpelier.

VCFA announced two years ago that it was pulling up stakes for its low-residency program in Montpelier and sending students to Colorado College. They sold off most five of their buildings to the Greenway Institute, a nonprofit based in White River Junction that offers sustainable engineering education.

Claire Jones spoke with Mark Somerville, president and co-founder of the Greenway Institute, for an update on their latest plans in Montpelier.
