RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – Vandalism has left sculptures in the Marble City defaced with an unknown substance, leaving local artists to wonder why.
Organizers of the Rutland Sculpture Trail say many of their works have been vandalized over recent weeks, with orange and yellow substances thrown onto them.
Carol Driscoll, director of Carving Studio & Sculpture Center says they’ve been grateful to see others go around cleaning up the messes.
“People are really dedicated to making this trail professional and something that can enrich the public so I feel really fortunate to have that because we don’t have a team of people to clean,” she said.
“Unfortunate that it’s happening and hopefully it will bring some attention to it. We’ll have people keep an eye on things,” said Don Ramey, a local sculptor.
The center says they’re still planning to add another sculpture to the trail this coming spring.
