MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – The state of Vermont will pay out nearly $200,000 to the family of a baby who died at a Rutland child care.
The family Harper Rose Briar– a 6-month-old who died after a deadly dose of cold medicine– sued the Vermont Department for Children and Families saying they should have investigated the provider who drugged the baby. That provider, Stacey Vaillancourt, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death and sentenced to 3 to 10 years in prison.
Now, in a civil court settlement, the state agreed to pay the family $195,000 but did not admit to any wrongdoing.
