BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – An Arkansas man has been sentenced to nearly seven years in prison for traveling to Vermont to have sex with a minor.
Federal authorities say Nicholas Shelton, 25, of Hope, met a 15-year-old girl in Vermont over social media in March 2023.
Court paperwork indicates he traveled to Vermont and secretly lived in the girl’s parent’s garage until he was kicked out. Two days later, the teen and Shelton were found camping in the woods in a nearby park in Essex.
Shelton was sentenced in Burlington Wednesday to 81 months in federal prison after previously pleading guilty to traveling with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.
