DERBY, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont wildlife officials are adding acreage to help protect a Northeast Kingdom watershed.
Vermont Fish and Wildlife announced Monday that nearly 50 acres have been added to the Johns River Streambank Management Area in Derby.
Officials say the river is a vital spawning habitat for wild trout and that the newly protected area will strengthen flood resilience, improve wildlife habitat, and expand public access.
The department and the Memphremagog Watershed Association worked with four private landowners to protect the area.
