Walk to end Alzheimer's held in St. Johnsbury

ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – The Walk to End Alzheimer’s Association is on their second walk this summer in Vermont, with over 400 people walking in St.Johnsbury Sunday.

The goal this year is to raise 110,000 dollars to fund Alzheimer’s research. Walkers sported different colored pin wheels. Each shade of the rainbow represents a distinct experience with Alzheimer’s. If you look closely you can see the names of those they love on the petals.

Caregivers attending the event say seeing so many people in the streets makes them feel supported; finding care in a rural areas can be challenging.

“Especially up here in the Northeast Kingdom. You hear about more and more people that are coming down with Alzheimer’s. You know, the people that are there to take care of them twenty four seven, they need care too,” said Lori Dwyer of Sheffield.

The organization’s next walk is on September 29th at the Shelburne Museum.
