State leaders highlight the importance of mental health during suicide prevention month

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – State leaders are highlighting mental health resources and progress in raising awareness about suicide prevention. September is suicide prevention month, and this week state leaders highlighted mental health, mobile crisis response teams, and the child psychiatry access program.

They say more care needs to be administered in local primary care settings, which they feel can reduce emergency room visits and wait times

“We recognize the emergency room can be a scary place and whenever a patient can be cared for in the community it allows our nurses and providers to be present for other patients who also need our services. said Dr. Alison Davis of Rutland Regional Medical Center

Governor Phil Scott this week also issued a proclamation thanking Vermont artist Noah Kahan for holding a benefit concert this week for mental health.
