COLCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) – A Colchester-based business is building a child care center for its employees.
Vermont Information Processing handles distribution, sales and warehouse software for beverage companies. It employs about 500 people in Vermont.
They’re currently renovating a building next door to create their own child care center for up to 100 kids.
The center would also employ about 25 child care workers.
Experts say from housing to transportation to child care, more employers are making investments to try to recruit workers.
“In these kinds of markets they’re customizing their wages, salaries, benefit packages and offerings to meet what’s most meaningful to the needs of the employees,” said Frank Cioffi of the Greater Burlington Industrial Corporation.
Some other employers offer enhanced benefits, wages and even housing.
Vermont Information Processing says they hope to have the child care center up and running by the end of next month.
