SARANAC LAKE, NY. (WCAX) – One man is dead after a fire at an apartment building in Saranac Lake – police say.
Fire crews responded to a fire on Elm St. early Sunday morning.
Police and fire crews evacuated several residents from the building – but later found one man dead.
Police are not releasing the name of the victim until family members are notified.
At least one cat also died in the fire and others are still missing.
Crews connected displaced residents with the red cross.
The building is open again.
The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.
