NEW YORK (WCAX) – Vermont Olympian Elle Purrier St. Pierre made history yet again this weekend by breaking an American indoor track record for the mile.

Competing in the Wannamaker Mile at the Milrose Games in New York, Purrier St. Pierre blazed to the finish in 4:16:41, beating her own record by about .4 of a second. The new record is all the more impressive by the fact that she had her first child less than a year ago.

“I’m just really happy to be here, really proud. Did that for all the moms down there, don’t feel like themselves but you’ve just gotta come back stronger, you’ve got it in you. And you know, it’s just awesome to be here and be back. I feel refreshed and happy and fit,” she told NBC Sports after the race.

Purrier St. Pierre will be looking to qualify for her second Olympics coming up in June in Oregon.
