Northeast Kingdom Human Services proposes office expansions

LYNDON, Vt. (WCAX) – Northeast Kingdom Human Services is making an effort to provide more space for its employees.

The organization has proposed locating more administrative offices at 48 Elm Street in downtown Lyndon. Back in December, NKHS tried to acquire the building for a medical clinic, which was denied by the town.

NKHS intends the space to be used by their many coordinators who work in that area, which could house up to 25 employees at a time in the building as well as residents they serve.

The organization is currently waiting for the town’s approval for the space. They hope by being in that part of the Northeast Kingdom, they can connect with more people who want to use their resources.

“One thing that is really important to us. Especially in the rural areas. Is, location is important. Even saying St. Johnsbury is the next town over, sometimes going seven miles can be a barrier to folks. So I think we are trying to normalize the services we offer, but also make it convenient,” said NKHS Executive Director Kelsey Stavseth.

If the space doesn’t get approved, NKHS says they will be looking at other alternatives.
