BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Although it’s the middle of winter right now — people are looking forward to summer and plan how they are going to soak up the sun.

Whether that’s laying on the beach or spending some time at camp – there’s something for everyone.

Vermont Fish and Wildlife offers a one-week Green Mountain Conservation Camp – starting from June 16 until August 16. Even though its months away registration is open. Programs are held at Lake Bomoseen in Castleton and Buck Lake in Woodbury.

Because Vermont Fish and Wildlife is state funded, and with scholarship opportunities available, the camps are more accessible to families who might not usually be able to afford them.

“These kids are able to learn a lot about it which is the first step to creating a really meaningful relationship with wildlife, with natural resources, the outdoors in general,” Hannah Phelps of Vermont Fish and Wildlife said.

Campers participate in hands-on learning about fish and wildlife conservation, ecology, forestry, orienteering, safe firearm and archery techniques, swimming, canoeing, fishing and more.

Natural resource professionals come to the camp to share information on their programs and take campers out for field activities.
