LYNDON, Vt. (WCAX) – A new scholarship has been created for nursing students at Vermont State Colleges Lyndon campus. The scholarship is funded by an estate gift of $100,000 from the Robert W. Chapman trust. Recipients will be selected by need and academic performance. Officials intend to give the scholarship to students that plan to pursue a career in the Northeast Kingdom. School officials say being a nursing student is very costly. They see this as an opportunity to do their part to help Vermont’s work force.

“We are really excited to partner with Vermont in terms of meeting it’s critical workforce needs. In the nursing program, we are under a multi year expansion where we will have almost a thousand seats in our nursing program. We are just so grateful for these funds that gives us an opportunity to support students financially.” said Vice President of Business Operations Sarah Truckle. The scholarship wont be available to students until 2025.
