ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – Police have released the identity of a woman who was found dead in St. Johnsbury on Tuesday, and they say she was shot to death.

Vermont state police say she is Christina Chatlos, 38, of Williamstown and Barre.

Investigators say the medical examiner determined Chatlos’ cause of death was a gunshot wound to the torso and it was a homicide.

Police say just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, a passerby called police saying there was a car with bullet holes and a person slumped over inside at a parking lot on Portland St., on the grounds of the Cornerstone School. When police arrived, they found Chatlos dead inside the vehicle.

According to Vermont’s Offender Locator, Chatlos was released from Corrections custody roughly nine hours before she was shot and killed. While police have not released any information regarding a motive or suspects, Chatlos had a lengthy criminal record, including several drug charges.

Anyone with information is asked to call the state police in St. Johnsbury at 802-748-3111 or to submit an anonymous tip online.
