BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Officials with the UVM Medical Center on Thursday released new details about a plan to purchase the Fanny Allen campus in Colchester for $17.3 million.
Currently, the campus is owned by a Catholic health care system. The UVM Medical Center leases the property and uses it for surgeries, urgent care and memory care.
UVMMC says purchasing the 22-acre campus will save $4 million-$6 million over 15 years and give the hospital room to expand services.
“It gives us flexibility in the future. So, there’s other opportunity potentially to bring new services to the Fanny Allen campus to potentially do further upgrades there since we’ll own the property that also I do think will help Vermonters for health care access and services in the coming years,” said Dr. Stephen Leffler, the president of the UVM Medical Center.
The purchase plan must be approved by the Green Mountain Care Board.
UVMMC is also pursuing approval to construct a new $130 million outpatient surgery center in South Burlington.
