BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The Burlington City Council Monday night is expected to revisit what has become a controversial resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
What started as a measure condemning the shootings at Thanksgiving of three college students of Palestinian descent turned into a resolution calling for a ceasefire. Now, the group Vermonters for Justice in Palestine say they have gathered 1,500 signatures and want the council to approve an advisory question on the Town Meeting Day ballot opposing all forms of racism and an end to “Israel’s apartheid regime, settler colonialism, and military occupation.”
After a lengthy debate last month, city councilors split 6 to 6 on the ceasefire resolution.
Protesters Monday hope to pack City Hall to push their point.
