PUTNEY, Vt. (WCAX) – The Putney Paper Mill has announced that it will be shutting down and laying off workers.

Vermont Labor Commissioner Michael Harrington Wednesday confirmed that the mill, operated by Soundview Vermont Holdings LLC., on Tuesday notified the state of the closure.

“The Vermont Department of Labor is saddened by the news of the closure of the Putney Paper Mill facilities in Putney, VT. The Department extends its support to all 127 employees affected by this unfortunate event,” Harrington said in a statement.

Officials say the company is providing a minimum of 60 days pay with benefits for all impacted workers in addition to a severance package.

Harrington said they are working with the company to ensure support services are provided to employees.

Employees impacted by the layoff can visit the Department of Labor’s regional Job Centers in Brattleboro and Springfield for one-on-one services, or by calling (802) 828-4394.
